Evelyn Brooks, a former stage actress, loses her adopted daughter Mia to relentless bullying by Sienna, a wealthy heiress. Mia is driven to jump to her death—and the justice system, manipulated by the powerful, lets the culprit walk free. Devastated, Evelyn deliberately disguises herself, hides her identity, and infiltrates the Sterling estate as a maid, determined to take revenge with her own hands. She understands human nature and sets trap after trap. She deliberately attracts the attention of Richard, the family's head, and moves between three men—Richard, the wealthy young admirer Jude, and her first love Beau—using their feelings as chips for revenge. During her time undercover, she saves Wendy, a girl who also suffered at Sienna's hands, and the two form a secret alliance, gathering evidence of the family's crimes. Through repeated clashes at banquets, layer after layer of darkness is peeled back: Elowen murdered her own sister Clara out of jealousy; the mastermind Preston stops at nothing for profit; and Sienna has blood on her hands. At Sienna's birthday banquet, all conflicts erupt. Every piece of evidence is made public, and all the villains fall into the hands of the law. With her revenge complete, Evelyn faces the affection and protection offered by Richard, Jude, and Beau—and refuses to depend on any man. She lets go of the deep hatred coiled in her heart, breaks free from every shackle of the past, and resolutely leaves the wealthy family alone to pursue a brand-new life of her own.
