Joker was once the strongest assassin of the Black Harbor organization, known as the "Grey Raven." Seven years ago, he refused an order to wipe out an entire target family and defected with his wife and daughter—but he lost his wife as a result and had to fake his own death, living under a hidden identity with his daughter Emma. Seven years later, Black Harbor discovered that Grey Raven was still alive. To qualify for succession, the young master Nolan reactivated the D-7 purge order: "Defectors and their blood relatives are to be eliminated together." After Emma was kidnapped, Joker blinded Nolan's right eye with a black pencil and reactivated the black-gold coin. Facing a succession of top assassins sent by Black Harbor, Joker recalled his former partner Charlie, rescued his daughter, publicly exposed the purge roster, and ultimately destroyed Black Harbor's old rules, burned the Grey Raven mask, and returned to the life of an ordinary father.
