Caedrian, the godfather of the Solon family, is forced by circumstances into a political marriage, only for his intended bride to be assassinated before the wedding. Leray, a bounty hunter commissioned to kill him, seizes the opportunity to assume the dead bride's identity and move into the estate. Caedrian uncovers the ruse but binds Leray to a "blood pact": if she succeeds in her mission, she will be granted territory and armed forces—yet she retains the right to kill him when the deadline arrives. As Leray’s former lover, Elias, repeatedly appears on the scene, the all-powerful Caedrian is forced to watch their interactions helplessly, suffering the torment of jealousy and the anguish of a humble, unrequited devotion.
