Elara, the lively youngest daughter of House Mooton, awaits her fiancé on her wedding day—but instead, her entire family is executed for "treason" by the Iron Throne. She is exiled to the North, where Stark patrols save her from wolves. She begs Lord Cedric to take her in. Cedric appears to be the Lord of Winterfell, but he hides another identity: Aegon Valyrian, the last surviving dragonlord whose family was wiped out twenty years ago. To seek revenge, Cedric trains Elara and sends her to the Queen's court as his spy. As she navigates royal politics, she grows stronger—and their forbidden feelings for each other deepen. Elara discovers the true enemy: the Church, which slaughtered her family to steal the "Tears of Silver Spring." She also learns that the Church was behind the destruction of the dragons twenty years ago. Cedric tries to push her away to protect her, but she refuses to leave. She uncovers his secret identity, and together they stand against the Church. In the end, they declare their love, defeat the Church in a final battle, and avenge both their families.
