Edward Henderson hid his wealth to win the heart of Irene Lawson, a simple, kind woman who loved him for who he was—or so he thought. On their wedding day, he planned to reveal everything. But Irene's best friend Nancy had other ideas. Poisoned by whispers of "testing his love," Irene turned the wedding into a gauntlet of absurd demands. Edward begged, reasoned, pleaded—but his bride-to-be only listened to her friend. He looked at the woman he loved, saw someone he didn't recognize, and made a choice: "The wedding is off."
