Chloe thought she was spending their third anniversary with the man she loved. She showed up at the hotel in her swimsuit — and walked straight into his engagement party with a wealthy socialite. For three years, Liam had been playing her. That's when his fiancée Isabella cornered Chloe, threatened Chloe's mother, and forced her to marry "just anyone" to get out of their way. Trapped in the hotel lobby, Chloe turned to a "waiter" who'd just been dumped by a gold-digger for being a nobody — and impulsively proposed. He said yes on the spot. That "waiter" was Alex, the hidden head of the Vance family — the power behind both corporate America and the underworld. He'd lived in disguise for years, searching for someone who would love him for who he was, not for his fortune. When Liam and Isabella tried to break her — framing her mother for theft, kidnapping mother and daughter, bullying her at her first job — Alex protected her from the shadows without ever revealing his power. Refusing to live in his shadow, Chloe joined the Vance Group as an ordinary intern and fought her own battles, winning them on her own. At the Vance Group gala, Alex finally revealed his true identity and their marriage to the world. Isabella's crimes landed her in police custody, and Liam reaped exactly what he sowed. As for the girl they'd dismissed as a nobody? She left the company to pursue her education — and returned five years later a business elite in her own right. When Alex finally made it official and proposed, she said yes — as his equal partner. Together, they were ready to welcome a new life.
