Elena was switched at birth and raised as a Sterling. When the real heiress, Veronica, returns, the Sterlings turn on Elena and throw her out. Elena then finds her biological parents—the Thorntons, New York's wealthiest family. Veronica falsely claims to be Alistair Kincaid's savior and schemes against Elena repeatedly, even drugging her. But Alistair turns the tables, making Veronica suffer her own trap and publicly humiliating the Sterling family. In the end, Elena stuns everyone as the Thornton heiress, wins the Kincaid family's approval, and finds true love.
