Magician Evelyn and her girlfriend Chloe were falsely accused of murder and robbery, sentenced to death, and sent to Ironwood Women’s Prison. Warden Beatrice coerced Chloe into trading sex for her life; to survive, Chloe betrayed Evelyn and threw herself into the warden’s arms. Evelyn befriended fellow inmate Harper and, using her magic tricks, secretly mapped out the prison’s layout, digging a tunnel through the ventilation ducts that led directly to the outer wall. On the eve of the performance, Chloe learns that she is merely a plaything and will ultimately be sent to have her organs harvested while still alive. In her despair, she informs on Evelyn to Beatrice, falsely claiming that Evelyn plans to escape through the east side. Beatrice deploys heavy security to the east side, leaving the west side vulnerable. On the night of the performance, Evelyn used the “Vanishing Act” as cover: she first helped Harper escape through the stage ductwork, then slipped out herself through a secret compartment in the water tank. The smoke alarm went off, throwing the entire venue into chaos. The two crawled out through the west-side ductwork, scaled the electric fence, and successfully escaped. Chloe, however, was met with Beatrice’s death sentence and was dragged to the electric chair amid desperate curses.
