At the funeral of her husband Hollis, lord of the Forest Elves, sea elf princess Tansy Walens is murdered in cold blood by Hollis's nephew Halvor—who has already killed Hollis to seize the lordship, and now kills Tansy to prove his loyalty to his furious dark-elf wife Margh. But Tansy does not stay dead. Osric Corastin, the true elf king blinded in his right eye by his own brother five years ago and the only one recognized by the sacred relic ring, carries her to the sanctuary and brings her back to life. Reborn, Tansy vows vengeance. She learns that the destruction of her sea elf homeland five years ago was no accident—and that Hollis, whose marriage proposal once saved her life, may have been part of it. Pregnant with Hollis's child and learning that Halvor and Margh plan to use the baby as nourishment for the sacred tree before killing it, Tansy quietly sacrifices the child herself to spare it a worse fate, then is found and healed by Osric. When Halvor shamelessly demands to marry her, Tansy escapes by accepting Osric's proposal—unaware that he is the wounded stranger she rescued from the sea five years ago, and that he has loved her ever since. As his queen, she wages a cold and brilliant war: she renders Halvor infertile with sacred white flowers, turns Margh's schemes against her, and dismantles the Brambley family's wealth piece by piece. When the usurper Ruford tries to claim her, Osric unleashes his full power. In the end, Osric's sight is restored. Every enemy who harmed Tansy is given to the sacred tree as nourishment, and the withered tree blooms again. Tansy finally recognizes Osric as the sea elf named Oslin she once saved. She becomes sole ruler of the Forest, Sea, and Shadow realms—and at last, as queen of all Luminveil, she finds peace and love at the true king's side
