Clara, the young mistress of the wealthy Carter family, should have risen in status after becoming pregnant. However, her world crumbled with the return of her husband Ethan’s first love, Olivia. To protect Olivia, Ethan publicly slandered Clara, claiming the child in her womb was the bastard of a kidnapper, and even allowed Olivia to move into their home. Consumed by humiliation and despair, Clara decided to file for divorce. In secret, she terminated the pregnancy and had the fetus preserved as a specimen—her final “gift” to Ethan.
