Lily Sterling, the real heiress who grew up in the slums, is forced to return to her wealthy Sterling family to raise money for church repairs. However, her return is seen as an intrusion and a threat by the imposter Victoria Sterling and her two brothers. The three arrogant siblings assume Lily is vulgar and ignorant, a poor relative trying to climb the social ladder, and set up numerous obstacles to make her disappear. But Lily Sterling always manages to escape unscathed, leaving these three self-important "family members" humiliated and embarrassed. After a series of unexpected events and reversals, this initially underestimated heiress dramatically defeats all her rivals and ultimately becomes the sole legitimate heir to the Sterling family fortune.
