Pregnant pureblood Aurora is abandoned by her husband Damian, who saves the lowly blood-slave Camilla instead, and is rescued by northern lord Caleb. Returning home, she finds Damian in bed with Camilla, who frames her child as a “mongrel”—Damian believes it, diverts all her resources to Camilla, and allows endless humiliation. Awakening to his betrayal, Aurora forcibly removes her pureblood fetus (a crystal core), reveals Camilla’s collusion with the kidnappers on the last day of their blood-contract, then leaves and allies with Caleb, who has long loved her in secret. When Damian finally realizes the truth, he executes Camilla and tries to win Aurora back, but is defeated by Caleb. Consumed by regret, he burns himself to ashes in sunlight.
