Lexi Miller’s father, a former Wall Street venture capital analyst, once made a mistake that bankrupted Julian Sterling’s family. Consumed by guilt, he jumped and ended up in a coma. Now Julian has clawed his way back to the top of the financial empire. From his penthouse in Manhattan, he turns a million-dollar ICU bill into a chain of death—using the threat of cutting off life support to crush Lexi’s dignity. A malicious socialite freezes her last medical trust. Arthur Belmont, Lexi’s first love, secretly disconnects her father’s life support to steal Julian’s empire, then frames Julian for the order. As the heart monitor flatlines, Lexi believes this is Julian’s brutal revenge. Clutching the bloodstained bill, she declares war against the tyrant, with her back to the wall: “Since you want me dead, let’s burn together.”
