Evelyn Sterling is the true founder and de facto power behind Aegis Global, as well as the wealthiest person in the United States. To support her husband Charles Cross’s career—and to make amends for having neglected their daughter, Lily, while she was preoccupied with work—Evelyn stepped back from the business. She handed the role of CEO over to Charles, all the while using her own private funds to cover his operational losses. Two years ago, a high fever left Lily with permanent hearing loss, requiring her to wear a hearing aid. During a rehearsal for a school play, a classmate named Madison pushed Lily to the ground and crushed her hearing aid. Madison’s mother, Samantha, not only refused to apologize but also took to the parents' group chat to smear Evelyn, labeling her a "homewrecker" who had seduced Charles—even posting "wedding photos" of herself and Charles as "proof." Evelyn was shocked to discover that her husband had been leading a double life, maintaining a secret family. When she arrived at the school to seek justice for her daughter, she was met with collective humiliation from Samantha, other parents, and the school administration. Eager to secure a massive donation promised by Samantha, the principal and teachers shielded Madison from the consequences of her bullying; they stripped Lily of her lead role in the play and even attempted to have her expelled. Emboldened by her status as the supposed "wife of the wealthiest man," Samantha—who viewed Evelyn as nothing more than a kept mistress—incited the crowd to vandalize Evelyn’s car, spread malicious rumors, and harass the mother and daughter. Evelyn’s executive assistant, Margaret, soon uncovered the truth: Charles had been living with Samantha for a decade, and Madison was his biological daughter. For years, he had been siphoning off Evelyn’s wealth to lavish his secret family with luxury homes, high-end vehicles, jewelry, and "black card" credit accounts. His ultimate plan was to seize full control of Evelyn’s corporate holdings before casting her and their daughter out on the street.
