To steal the $500,000 bride price, stepmother Agnes Miller forces Elena Carter to marry the abusive Jared Dixon as a substitute bride for her daughter Brittany. Elena suffers horrific abuse from the in-laws: hard labor, starvation, and infertility after a botched postpartum recovery. When the Dixons scheme to find another woman for a son, Elena flees with her daughter Emma. She faints on the street but is saved by her long-lost biological mother, the wealthy Valerie Sterling. Making a fierce comeback, Elena demands a divorce and the bride price back. Discovering her mother is a Big Boss, the Dixons shamelessly kiss up to her. But when Elena tests them with a fake bankruptcy, they instantly turn on her. In the end, Elena gets her divorce, and the abusers will finally face justice.
