Marina is a mermaid who will turn to foam in thirty days without true love's kiss. She tore her tail apart for Damien. Day twenty-seven—no kiss. Damien kissed another woman in front of her. He gave her soul-scale to Vanessa as a necklace, and her heart-pearl—her only way home—as an anklet. Marina took everything back. On opening night, she emptied every case of his stolen jewels. She reclaimed the tide-bracelet, the soul-scale, and finally the life she stole from death for him. Damien dissolved into white foam, swept away by the tide. And Eli—who gave up his voice to find her—used his returned voice to whisper: “Welcome home.”
