My mother was dying, and I—the fallen heiress of the Sterling family—had no choice but to ask my husband for the $200,000 stipulated in our prenuptial agreement, less than a week after our wedding. He transferred the money without a word. But that night, the way he looked at me changed. "So the Sterling family is drowning in fraud scandals. I guess greed really does run in the blood." From that day on, Theodore never looked me in the eye again. He started openly parading other women at social events, letting everyone mock me as a gold-digger who only married him for money. Today is my birthday. I'm sitting in the emergency room with unbearable stomach pain. Meanwhile, Theodore is throwing a party for his new girlfriend. Clutching the $185 emergency room bill, I call him. "Theodore, let's get a divorce." "Here we go again. How much are you trying to extort from me this time?"
